Computer security: A tool to control them all!

In the age of AI (Artificial Intelligence), security has become a major issue for companies. Indeed, a simple antivirus based on known signatures, or antispam is no longer sufficient to protect against computer attacks targeting your data, ransomware or traditional phishing via email. These have become increasingly complex and sophisticated to recognize and thwart. The second of inattention that could perhaps ruin the work of a day or a lifetime has happened so quickly if you are not properly protected...

"SentinelOne" is cybersecurity software specialized in workstation protection. It uses artificial intelligence to detect and block threats.

It is used by companies wishing to monitor suspicious behavior on their IT systems in real time.

What is SentinelOne?

SentinelOne is an IT security solution classified in the EDR, for Endpoint Detection and Response. This means that it protects computers, servers and other connected equipment against digital attacks.

Unlike traditional antiviruses, SentinelOne analyzes file and process behavior in real time. It relies on artificial intelligence models to detect known and unknown threats without prior signature.

The software can be deployed on different operating systems like Windows, macOS and Linux. It operates autonomously and can also communicate with centralized management platforms.

What is SentinelOne used for?

SentinelOne is used to protect an organization's IT infrastructure against malware, ransomware (ransomware), targeted attacks and intrusions not detected by traditional solutions.

It is often used by IT security teams (SOCs), network administrators, as well as cybersecurity service providers. It offers advanced capabilities: detection, automated response, logging and rapid remediation.

For SMEs and large companies alike, SentinelOne can significantly limit the financial and operational impact of an attack.

It is also useful in regulated contexts, where it is necessary to demonstrate the implementation of appropriate protections against cyber threats.

How does SentinelOne work?

SentinelOne installs a lightweight agent on each terminal to be protected. This program continuously monitors what is happening on the machine: files, processes, network connections, memory access, etc.

The agent studies the observed behaviors. For example, if a file tries to encrypt all documents on a computer at once, it is likely ransomware. The agent then blocks the action.

The analysis engine is based on artificial intelligence. It helps detect threats without needing to wait for signature updates, reducing reaction time to new attacks.

In the event of an incident, SentinelOne can launch an automated response: quarantine, isolation of the workstation concerned, recovery of files before encryption, etc.

Differences with similar notions

Unlike a traditional antivirus, SentinelOne does not limit itself to scanning files. It also analyzes behavior in real time and can act without human intervention.

Compared to SIEM (Security Information and Event Management), which collects logs network-wide, SentinelOne acts directly on terminals.

Some tools like CrowdStrike or Microsoft Defender ATP are comparable. The difference depends on the automation capabilities, the lightness of the agent and the speed of response.
